Cosmetic Ingredients with Sensitization Data

Skin sensitization is a two-stage adverse immune response to a substance: induction (first exposure, asymptomatic) and elicitation (subsequent exposure, visible allergic contact dermatitis). Under EU Regulation 1223/2009 and the 7th Amendment Ban on Animal Testing, sensitization assessment for cosmetic ingredients uses non-animal methods: the Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (DPRA, OECD TG 442C), KeratinoSens (OECD TG 442D), h-CLAT (OECD TG 442E), and the Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA, OECD TG 429 — still permitted for non-cosmetic substances). Human Repeat Insult Patch Tests (HRIPTs) provide clinical confirmation and the NESIL (No Expected Sensitisation Induction Level). The SARA ICE master database integrates data across all five methods per substance. This cluster lists cosmetic ingredients with sensitization data from any of these sources.
